Happy Back to School to ALL our members and friends.
We start a brand-new year and your impact on your students will be one of the most important experiences that happen at your school this year.
Please join us next Saturday on August 26th for fellowship and breakfast as we welcome, from Orlando, workshop extraordinaire Artie Almeida. Artie will bring with her tons of great ideas to share with your students. Since Artie will be driving up to join us we will begin her workshop at 9:30, which will allow us to gather and welcome each other to our new year with a light breakfast and morning coffee. Please bring a breakfast item to share if you feel so inclined.
After our workshop we need to have a short but meaningful business meeting with you, our members. We have a few chapter duties to perform, including the nomination and election process of President Elect for our chapter. I will provide you more information on that position in this email. The HoF board also wants to share and communicate our goals for this school year and season of workshops. An agenda for the business meeting will be attached to this email.
Are you interested in servant-leadership for the music education community? Want to support your peers and colleagues? I hope you will consider joining the Heart of Florida Orff Chapter Board. Right now our immediate need is for a President Elect. President Elect is the office that supports the President and prepares to be President after the current President’s term expires.
The basic functions of all board positions are communication and collective decision-making.
Some of the duties I perform as President are making contact with presenters, booking the presenters, writing vendors for donations, inquiring about favors and financial support, maintaining our web presence through our website and Facebook page, and maintaining communication with various local learning communities such as Alachua/Marion district administrators and schools, other area schools, and local colleges and universities.
We currently have two outstanding servant leaders as our Treasurer, Carrie Olson; and Secretary, Danielle Trip. Their 2-year terms will expire at the end of this school year and those positions will need to be staffed to continue the 18-year tradition of bringing HIGH QUALITY music education workshops to Ocala and Gainesville. I want to thank Carrie, Danielle, and our previous President, Sondra Collins, who literally SAVED the chapter from dissolution. They deserve our thanks and appreciation that after 18 years we can continue to serve into our 19th year.
PLEASE COME HELP US CELEBRATE 19 YEARS OF SERVICE TO OCALA AND GAINESVILLE ON AUGUST 26TH, AT DR. N. H. JONES ELEMENTARY, 9:00 – 1:30.
***A personal note about the history of the Heart of Florida Orff Chapter*********
“A Tale of Two Cities”
When HoF has workshops in Gainesville, the Gainesville teachers tend to come out and have good attendance. When HoF has workshops in Ocala, the Ocala teachers tend to come out and have good attendance. However, in the history of our chapter when we try to serve both communities usually attendance is heavily influenced by location. This has been true for the history of the chapter. I WANT TO STRIVE TO CHANGE THIS YEAR! Sometimes I have the pleasure of going out west to present for a chapter workshop. Most western states are big states that only have one chapter. One morning in Albuquerque, NM, a man told me he drove from Denver to see my workshop; I was overwhelmed! That is a typical experience for many Orff chapters. We are fortunate to have 7 chapters in Florida, more than any other state. We have one right in our own backyard.
Thanks for supporting your “home” chapter. I can’t wait to see and visit with you on Saturday, August 26th to see ARTIE ALMEIDA, at Dr. N. H. Jones in Ocala, 9:00 to 1:30.
Please see attachments.
Yours in Orff!
